Si terrà il 14 settembre la 78esima edizione dei Primetime Emmy Awards, premi Oscar della televisione, con le nomination annunciate ieri sera. A guidare il listone di candidati c’è The Pitt, serie medical HBO Max, con 25 nomination, seguita dalle 24 dell’ultima stagione di Hacks, dalle 19 di Widow’s Bay e dalle 18 di Pluribus, con la sua protagonista dichiaratamente lesbica.
Ma quali sono state le candidature LGBTQIA+?
Heated Rivalry ineleggibile
Niente da fare per Heated Rivalry, serie fenomeno dell’anno, perché interamente prodotta in Canada, particolare di non poco conto che l’ha automaticamente esclusa dalla corsa. Per essere nominati agli Emmy è infatti necessaria almeno una co-produzione a stelle e strisce. Già si sapeva che Heated Rivalry non avrebbe potuto concorrere seppur acclamata dalla critica, con annesse polemiche perché c’è chi vorrebbe cambiare il regolamento rendendolo più inclusivo nei confronti delle produzioni non necessariamente statunitensi. Ciò nonostante, a strappare la sua prima nomination agli Emmy è stato Connor Storrie, co-protagonista di Heated Rivalry, grazie alla sua comparsata al Satutday Night Live.
Tra le serie comedy, niente da fare per Big Mistakes, I Love LA, The Four Seasons e Boots, con Hacks grande favorita davanti a The Bear e Widow’s Bay, mentre tra le serie drama nomination di peso per The Gilded Age e Pluribus, con The Pitt favorita. Niente da fare per le ultime stagioni di Euphoria né Stranger Things, con annesso chiacchierato coming out finale di Will. Tra le migliori attrici in una serie drama spicca Ayo Edebiri, apertamente queer e volto di The Bear, ma Jean Smart appare difficilmente superabile. Tra le migliori attrici drama Zendaya dovrà provare a superare Rhea Seehorn di Pluribus e Chase Infiniti di The Testaments, mentre tra le migliori attrici non protagoniste per una commedia spazio a Hannah Einbinder e Megan Stalter di Hacks, entrambe dichiaratamente bisessuali.
Boom Colman Domingo
Doppia nomination per Colman Domingo, in corsa come miglior attore non protagonista in una commedia per The Four Seasons e come migliore guest star per l’ultima stagione di Euphoria, con Michael Urie, da sempre dichiaratamente queer, candidato per Shrinking. Tra le migliori guest comiche c’è anche Cherry Jones, dichiaratamente lesbica e splendido volto di un mitico episodio di Hacks, con Jeff Hiller, attore dichiaratamente gay, candidato come miglior guest comedy per Pluribus. Per quanto riguarda le produzioni di Ryan Murphy, storicamente molto apprezzate in casa Emmy, Charlie Hunnam è stato nominato come miglior attore in una miniserie per Monster: The Ed Gein Story, con Love Story candidata a 3 Emmy, come miglior serie limitata o antologica, per la miglior attrice Sarah Pidgeon e la miglior attrice non protagonista Constance Zimmer. Niente da fare per il protagonista Paul Anthony Kelly.
Fa rumore, e non poco sconcerto, l’unica nomination per Half Man, nuova serie HBO Max che spazia tra mascolinità tossica e omosessualità repressa firmata Richard Gadd, con il suo creatore candidato come miglior attore non protagonista in una serie limitata/antologica. Gadd non è così riuscito a replicare l’exploit di Baby Reindeer, con cui vinse ben 3 Emmy in una notte. Riuscirà a conquistare il 4°? Snobbato il protagonista Jamie Bell.
Tra i reality, solita sfida tra RuPaul’s Drag Race e The Traitors, con Alan Cumming chiamato a sfidare ancora una volta RuPaul. Nella classifica delle piattaforme, HBO Max guida il listone con ben 122 nomination, seguita dalle 111 di Netflix e dalle 89 di Apple Tv+. Più dietro Prime Video (28), FX/Hulu (23) e Disney+ (14).
