Mai tanti candidati come quest’anno per la 33esima edizione dei GLAAD Media Awards, premi annuali assegnati dalla Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation alle persone e alle produzioni dell’intrattenimento, per il loro contribuito nel dare un’immagine più veritiera e accurata della comunità LGBT.
Sono addirittura 246 i nominati in 30 categorie, che spaziano tra cinema, tv, musica, giornalismo, teatro e altro ancora. Come ogni anno, la GLAAD ospiterà due cerimonie: la prima si terrà a Los Angeles il 2 aprile e la seconda a New York City il 6 maggio. La 33a edizione dei GLAAD Media Awards segna anche l’introduzione di due nuove categorie: Nuove serie tv e Graphic Novel/Antologie.
“I candidati di quest’anno rappresentano progetti, storie e autori che hanno cambiato positivamente la cultura e illuminato il pubblico con storie LGBTQ nuove e di grande impatto”, ha affermato Sarah Kate Ellis, Presidente e CEO di GLAAD. “Ci sono più candidati quest’anno che mai, evidenziando un panorama crescente di visibilità LGBTQ”. “Dopo decenni in cui i personaggi LGBTQ sono stati esclusi, messi da parte o travisati in televisione, è incredibilmente potente vedere quante serie hanno introdotto personaggi e trame LGBTQ fresche, di grande impatto e completamente sviluppate nella loro prima stagione, molte delle quali sono state tra i più amati spettacoli dell’anno“, ha sottolineato Ellis. “L’introduzione della categoria Outstanding New TV Series riconosce gli show e gli autori che vogliono l’inclusione LGBTQ fin dall’inizio, incoraggiando altri showrunner a includere personaggi e storie LGBTQ che illuminano e divertono attraverso nuovi progetti”.
In ambito televisivo, HBO/HBO Max guarda tutti dall’alto in basso con le sue 19 nomination totali, seguita dalle 17 di Netflix. Pose dovrebbe vincere tra le serie drama, mentre tra le novità Yellowjackets se la vedrà con Chucky. Sul fronte miniserie It’s a Sin pare imbattibile, con Sex Education e Love, Victor a battagliare tra le comedy.
Tra i migliori film dell’anno visti al cinema con ampia release, tick, tick… BOOM! sfida West Side Story, Eternals, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie e il cartoon The Mitchells vs. the Machines, mentre in ambito musicale il fenomeno Lil Nas X sfida tra i tanti Elton John, Demi Lovato, Halsey, St. Vincent e Mykki Blanco.
“Chi avrebbe mai potuto immaginare che in questo momento i neri omosessuali sarebbero stati a testa alta in cima alle classifiche, al Congresso, sulle copertine delle principali riviste e sugli schermi TV e cinematografici, tutto nello stesso dannato momento ?”, si è chiesto Ernest Owens in un articolo di Rolling Stone candidato ai GLAAD. “Viviamo in un mondo in cui non solo la comunità queer nera viene abbracciata, ma coloro che ci mostrano odio vengono criticati”.
