Sono state svelate le nomination degli Independent Spirit Awards 2025, premi assegnati da quasi 40 anni a quei film e a quelle serie realizzate con meno di 30 milioni di dollari di budget. Un’edizione straordinariamente queer, con I Saw the TV Glow e la Palma d’Oro 2024 Anora a guidare il listone dei candidati con sei nomination a testa.
Ancora mai distribuito in Italia, l’horror trans I Saw the TV Glow di Jane Schoenbrun ruota attorno a Owen (interpretatə sia da Ian Foreman che da Justice Smith) e Maddy (Brigette Lundy-Paine), adolescenti alienatə dalla solitudine della periferia americana che trovano sollievo in The Pink Opaque: misterioso show notturno a metà tra X-Files e Buffy L’Ammazzavampiri che in qualche modo lə fa sentire vistə. Ma quando si supera la linea sottile tra realtà e finzione? Quanto quello che guardiamo può modellare e definire quello che sentiamo dentro?
Tra i candidati a miglior film troviamo anche il folgorante The Substance con un’esplosiva Demi Moore e l’atteso Sing Sing con Colman Domingo, candidato tra i miglior protagonisti insieme all’icona trans Hunter Schafer di Cuckoo e a Justice Smith di I Saw the TV Glow. Tra i non protagonisti troviamo Brigette Lundy-Paine, mentre tra le migliori rivelazioni spicca Katy O’Brian di Love Lies Bleeding, dove interpreta una wrestler in amore con Kristen Stewart.
Tra le serie boom di nomination per Baby Reindeer, con candidature recitative per Richard Gadd, Nava Mau e Jessica Gunning, con Lily Gladstone nominata per Under the Bridge, Julianne Moore in corsa per la serie queer Mary & George e Andrew Scott in corsa per il suo fantastico Ripley. Pioggia di nomination anche per le streghe queer di Agatha All Along, con le veterane Kathryn Hahn e Patti LuPone affiancate al giovane Joe Locke, che ha così strappato la sua prima candidatura di peso in carriera. “Woweeeeee!” il commento dell’attore di Heartstopper, con l’aggiunta di un’emoji che piange.
