310 candidature per 33 categorie. La GLAAD, ovvero la più grande organizzazione mondiale in difesa dei media LGBTQIA+, ha annunciato le nomination per la 35a edizione del GLAAD Media Awards. Riconoscimenti che dal 1990 premiano persone e produzioni per il loro contribuito nel dare un’immagine più veritiera e accurata della comunità LGBTQIA+ e delle questioni che riguardano la nostra vita.
Le due cerimonie di premiazione si terranno Los Angeles giovedì 14 marzo 2024 e a New York City l’11 maggio 2024.
Particolarmente ricche e combattute alcune categorie. Nella sezione miglior film con uscita ampia in sala sarà battaglia tra lo splendido All of Us Strangers, American Fiction, Bottoms e Il Colore Viola, mentre tra i film usciti al cinema con distribuzione limitata ci sono anche due italiani. Ovvero Emanuele Crialese con L’immensità e Andrea Pallaoro con Monica. Tra i miglior film sbarcati direttamente in streaming spicca Ferzan Ozpetek, con Nuovo Olimpo, per quella che possiamo e definire una tripletta storica. Tre produzioni nostrane candidate ai GLAAD Media Awards non si erano mai viste, a dimostrazione di come anche la cinematografia italiana abbia finalmente iniziato a raccontare storie, realtà, viste LGBTQIA+, facendosi apprezzare all’estero. Nuovo Olimpo dovrà vedersela contro Rustin, Nyad, Cassandro e Rosso, bianco & sangue blu.
Tra i cantanti, invece, sarà sfida aperta tra Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Billy Porter, Janelle Monae, Sam Smith, Troye Sivan, Victoria Monet, Brandy Clark e Renee Rapp, mentre tra le serie c’è di tutto e di più. Da The Last of Us a Heartstopper, passando per Chucky, And Just Like That, Yellowjackets, Riverdale, What We Do In The Shadows, Grey’s Anatomy, Sex Education, Ted Lasso, La Caduta degli Usher, Compagni di Viaggio e Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton. Grande assente la 2a stagione di The White Lotus, perché andata in onda a fine 2022. Tutti i candidati rientrano infatti dal 1 gennaio al 31 dicembre 2023.
“Per 35 anni i GLAAD Media Awards hanno fornito il proprio palcoscenico globale ai creatori LGBTQ, insieme a talenti e leader del settore da celebrare e supportare”, ha commentato la CEO e presidente Sarah Kate Ellis. “In un momento in cui la comunità LGBTQ è sotto attacco da false narrazioni e disinformazione, quando meno della metà degli americani afferma di avere familiarità con persone transgender e non binarie e quando un adulto su cinque della Gen Z si identifica come LGBTQ, i candidati di quest’anno riflettono con forza la realtà dell’esistenza LGBTQ oggi, nelle nostre comunità e in tutto il mondo. Nel mezzo di un’estate segnata da scioperi sindacali in tutta Hollywood, la posta in gioco non è mai stata così alta per mantenere il progresso della visibilità e della rappresentanza LGBTQ su tutti i media, dal cinema, alla televisione, alla musica, al giornalismo, all’editoria e altro ancora”.
